DATZ 12/2014 – Catfish Press Review

Hi,

I want to introduce you in a few articles about catfishes in the journal DATZ 12/2014:

Frank Schäfer "L-Nummern und Oligancistrus aufgelöst" (“L-numbers and Oligancistrus resolved”)

Chamon & Rapp Py-Daniel published the revision of genus Spectracanthicus (Nijssen & Isbrücker) (look also “Taxonomic revision of Spectracanthicus Nijssen & Isbrücker (Loricariidae: Hypostominae: Ancistrini), with description of three new species“) at the beginning of 2014. Until then, the genus Spectracanthicus was with Spectracanthicus murinus monotypic. Already in 1989 Papp Py-Daniel has established with Oligancistrus a similar genus. Both genera (Spectracanthicus and Oligancistrus) are characterized by a connection between dorsal and adipose fins. A significant distinguishing feature is the dentition.

With the revision of the genus Oligancistrus is regarded as a synonym of the genus Spectracanthicus.

In 1989 Chaetostoma punctatisimus was type species of the genus Oliganicstrus. Oligancistrus punctatisimus have also the L-numbers L16 and L30.

Spectracanthicus immaculatus corresponds to the L363, according to the revision. [The description in the revision, however, is almost exactly L269.]

L86 is now Spectracanthicus tocantinensis.

Spectracanthicus zuanoni is referenced by L20 and L354. Frank Schaefer points out that these two forms are clearly distinguishable on the basis of points. As a consequence, L354 will not be included in the environmental and wildlife conservation, because this form does not have an own scientific name.

Walter Lechner "Manaus – wo Negro und Solimões zusammentreffen" (5) (“Manaus – where Negro and Solimoes make together”)

Walter Lechner reported again on fishing trips near Manaus. Of particular interest here Ancistrus dolichopterus and Ancistrus sp. “Brown” from Lago Catalaõ.

Thorsten Könnecke "Leserbriefe – Betrifft: Beifänge in der Aquaristik" (“Letters to the editor – concerns: by-catches in fishkeeping”)

By-catches are usually also fish that normally are not imported to Europe, so that only a few of these animals are available in Europe. In this way he has already received Corydoras cf. elegans and Corydoras cf. adolfoi.
