DATZ 10/2014 – Catfish Press Review

Hi,

I want to introduce you a few articles about catfishes in the journal DATZ 10/2014:

Jürgen Heßler “Generationenkonflikt” („Generation Gap“)

The author talks about his Ancistrus sp. “Yellow-Blackeyes”. The son makes his father parental cave in dispute. Then he becomes the new boss in the aquarium. From this day he bred the eggs with a few execptions.

Erik Schiller “Ein Panzerwels aus dem Mazaruni River” („A Corydoras from Mazaruni River“)

Erik writes about the preservation of Corydoras sp. “C 150” in our aquariums. Some years ago he has already increased this species. He thought that sufficiently many breeders get this species and he gave up this species for reasons of space. The species disappeared slowly from our aquariums. Erik found a group of these species randomly later. This group he increased also. The first group spawned spontaneously after a change of water. In difference the second group spawned after a slow lowering of the water temperature.

Frank Schäfer “Ungewöhnlicher Südamerikaner” („Unusual South American“)

Frank informed that Trachelyopterus males develop during the spawning period similar sexual characteristics such as the dolphin catfish (Ageneiosus), eg a very long dorsal fin spine.
The dolphin catfish, these features make it back. From the Trachelyopterus there is regarding a possible degeneration anything yet known.
