Bis zur Revision 2014 als Ancistrini. Mit der Revision wurde auch Oligancistrus zum Synonym von Spectracanthicus. Diese Synonymisierung ist umstritten. Die Art würde eher zu Oligancisturs als zu Spectracanthicus passen.
