Amazonas November/December 2015 – Catfish Press Review

Hello catfish freaks,

today I want to introduce you in five articles from the current issue of Amazonas November/December 2015:

Daniel Wewer "Neues aus Iquitos – Auf Fischfangtour mit dem Motorrad"

(“News from Iquitos – On fishing tour by motorbike”)

Daniel Wewer fulfilled a dream when he in 2014 with the motorcycle crossed the Andes. First he had to go by boat to the Río Marañon upstream 5 days ago from Iquitos before he came to a trafficable runway. An essential part of a route went along the Huallaga River. Here he made many stops to catch fishes. He catched for example Ancistrus, Chaetostoma and Peckoltia.

Hans-Georg Evers "Panaqolus nix"

Hans write about the scientific description of Panaqolus nix (Christian Andreas Cramer, Lúcia Helena Rapp Py-Daniel "A new species of Panaqolus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the rio Madeira basin with remarkable intraspecific color Variation"). He informs that Panaqolus nix is a Panaqolus which he had catched in the Madre de Dios-basin some years ago. In the magazine DATZ this Panaqolus got the L-number L395.

Hans-Georg Evers "Ich steh´ eben auf -Weiß! – Zu Besuch bei Robert Budrovcan"

(“I stand up on white! – A visit to Robert Budrovcan”)

Hans visited the ancestor of almost white Hypancistrus sp. "L 236", Robert Budrovcan. Hans reports that Robert is bred this species with a lot of meticulousness since about 2000. By selecting Robert produced a very white stem. The new project of Robert is a stem in gold.
Apparently especially white Hypancistrus sp. “L’236” grow a bit slower and are more susceptible to disease. To avoid this problem Robert makes repeatedly backcrossing with preceding generations.

Ernst Schmidt "Haltung & Zucht von Hypancistrus sp. L 236"

(“Keeping & breeding of Hypancistrus sp. ‘L 236′”)

Ernst Schmidt got some Hypancistrus sp. “L236” from Robert. Ernst tells about his experiences with this species. For breeding he has a pH-value of 6.2 and a temperature of 27-28 °C.

Hans-Georg Evers "Corydoras pygmaeus ‘Albino’"

Hans reports, that Stefan Andreter, an aquarist from Dürrwangen, bred albino from Corydoras pygmaeus. This is caused by spontaneous mutation. He could be bred a solid base over several generations of them.
