On the Río Napo

On the next morning (for my understanding too late in the day to observe animals) we went to a near Canopy Walkway. The first track we could go by boat. However, the river was very narrow and winding. The boat arrived just so around the curves.

The Canopy Walkway is abundantly 600 m long. The highest platform is about 36 m above the ground. Going on such suspension bridges is a fairly shaky affair. In contrast to other paths known to me, on the sides nets were stretched. That was plenty of security. Unfortunately from this height we have only seen a few animals. I think it was too late in the day.

After lunch we wanted to go to a very beautiful black water lagoon with sandbank. The rains of the previous days had made the lagoon very unsightly: the sandbank was no longer visible and on the water swam several dead reptiles.

In the evening was an excursion by boat. In this time we saw a few small fishes and a huge butterfly, Caligo sp.

One day later. In the morning we took another walk in the jungle. On the way we saw a dead snake. Our guide told us that a man from the staff of the lodge killed this snake on previous day. A little later we met him in the forest. We learned that every morning it is his job to look for venomous snakes in near of the lodge and to kill these. Because of possible venomous snakes we had to dress cuffs in Brazil. The snake hunter went barefoot. Sometimes you get the feeling there, as the shoes were among the locals innate.
