From the rainforest to Lima

After the walk it should go back to Iquitos and we were expecting a longer boat ride.

But there was an abbreviation: We drove the Napo River upstream to Mazán (dark blue markers). At this point, the Amazon and Río Napo are just a few kilometers separated. On both rivers there are in each case small boat harbors. Both ports are connected to a concrete road (Mazán – Baradero). On this is brisk shuttle – of course with tuk-tuks. Just as you rush there on the narrow road, it was me with oncoming traffic sometimes not so well.

This was followed by speed boat to Iquitos. After a decent basic cleaning we had time, leisurely drink a beer on the waterfront promenade. At noon on the next day we flew back to Lima.

As our stay in Lima was planned for almost 30 hours, I had ordered for us a rental car. The ride to our hotel already brought the first disillusionment. For the 22 km to the hotel we had used 4 hours. The rest of the day was over. In particular, the many buses have annoyed. The buses are driven in long lines in 20-30 cm distance between them. They have not cars let change lanes.

Order to not to risk our flight we had thought about to drive from our hotel to the coast (about 2 km) and then along the coast road pass Lima (center). On the other side of Lima, where there is also the airport, we wanted to make us a good time.

Through the coastal fog the view of the Pacific was not particularly good. In fine weather the coast has certainly something nice. At Lima past we have come in the suburban area, 10 … 20 … 30 km forlorn landscape and residential area.

The traffic was indeed fairly smoothly, but compared to Europe or Buenos Aires (Argentina) very messy.

That was from our Peru trip.
