To Río Napo

In the evening there was a nasty shock for us: on the next morning we should stand up at 5:00 clock so that we start our trip to the next stop on the Rio Napo at 6:00 clock.

Unfortunately, the boat was extremely crowded, because there are some many people from another lodge which make a day trip in the same direction. So there were only seats in the second row. On the way it started to rain and we had to close the rain tarp. Also on the Napo River were to see bigger ships. After about 2 hours of driving we arrived at the ExplorNapo Lodge (dark brown marker).

The Grey-winged Trumpeter (Psophia crepitans napensis) my wife immediately closed in her heart. Often it is so that birds are the victims of snakes. Here it is vice versa: if these birds encountered by a snake, then the birds peck them quickly out the eyes.

Actually, the Trumpeters should to be very shy. This one has found sometimes as young animal in the jungle when he had broken a wing. At the lodge the staff has then raised him. Now they are looking for a suitable female.

After breakfast we visited the nearby Botanic Gardens. Scientists and students are repeatedly here, to see plants and investigate these. The “chief gardener” showed us several plants and explained their medicinal effects.

Especially interesting was that he held a (conserved) Crotalus durissus (the most venomous snake in South America) besides a Dracontium-stalk (plant against bites from poisonous snakes). Both patterns were very similar. Then he showed us a shaman ceremony, which wills that the persons relax.

In the afternoon we make a tour on boat for fishing. Some Pyranhas had a bite taken – the dinner was secured.
