Aquaristik Fachmagazin June/July 2017 – “Catfish press review”

Hello catfish freaks,

I would like to present you four articles of the current edition of the Aquaristik Fachmagazin April/Mai 2017:

Oliver Lucanus “Finally aquarium fishes from Suriname” (“Endlich wieder Aquarienfische aus Suriname”)

Oliver Lucanos notes that in Suriname there live many Loricariidae. But the aquarists are only interested in a few because the catfishes from Suriname don´t have the variety of colors like the catfishes from the Rio Orinoco. The plain brown Hypostomos from Suriname are not desired. At least three species of catfishes are popular: Hemiancistrus medians, Pseudacanthicus serratus and Pseudancistrus barbatus.

Other catfishes from Suriname are only suitable for show aquariums because their size: Brachyplatystoma filamentosum, Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii and Brachyplatystoma vaiullantii.

Suriname is more in interest of Corydoras friends. In Suriname there are live many species of Corydoras, for example: Corydoras filamentosus und Corydoras geoffroy (zwei sehr begehrte Arten), Corydoras oxyrhynchus, Corydoras saramaccensis, Corydoras baderi, Corydoras sp. “CW114” und Corydoras sp. “CW122”.

Daniel Konn-Vetterlein “Chaetostoma from Peru” (“Gebirgsharnischwelse aus Peru”)

Daniel Konn-Vetterlein writes about Chaetostoma sp. „L 276“. A few years ago this form was assigned to Chaetostoma lineopunctatum. He think that these are two different species because in comparison from his species of Chaetostoma sp. “L 276” with the pictures of the description of Chaetostoma lineopunctatum they are very different and because between the habitats of both species there is a very great distance.

Additional he makes a mention of Chaetostoma sp. “L 348” which have a red seam in the caudal fin.

Ingo Seidel “Beautiful beauties of different Corydoras species from the Orinoco River”(“Wunderschöne Schautiere verschiedener Corydoras-Arten aus dem Río Orinoco”)

Ingo reports from the import of very beautiful Corydoras from the border area between Colombia and Venezuela: Corydoras brevirostris, Corydoras loxozonus (CW 125) und Corydoras concolor.

These species have already a considerable size. Therefore the costs of airfreight were very high and the species costs more as others.

Erik Schiller “A Corydoras from Argentina:Corydoras micracanthus” (“Ein Panzerwels aus Argentinien: Corydoras micracanthus”)

Erik’s article is about Corydoras micracanthus. This is one of twelve Corydoras species from Argentina. This species is very similar to Corydoras gladysae and Corydoras petracinii. These three species live in a small area in the north of Argentina. They are endemic. Erik reproduced Corydoras micracanthus.
