aquaristik 2/2017 – “Catfish Press Review”

Hello catfish freaks,

I would like to present you four articles of the current edition of the aquaristik – Aktuelle Süßwasseraquaristik:

Ingo Seidel "Otocinclus Part 2: Species with Zebra pattern from South America" (“Ohrgittersaugwelse Teil 2: Arten mit Zebramuster aus Südamerika”)

Ingo write about three groups:

The Otocincluscocama-type with the Otocinclus cocama from the type locality Jenaro Herrera, the very similar form from the Rio Yarapa (rare imported) and the form from the Río Tigre (often imported).

The Otocinclusflexilis-type with Otocinclus flexilis from Brazil, Otocinclus mimulus from Paraguay and Otocinclus arnoldi from Uruguay.

The Otocinclus “Negros”, which was descirbed as Otothyropsis piribebuy.

Furthermore Ingo writes about the Aquarium keeping. He advises against the keeping in a common aquarium.
With respect to the reproduction Ingo advises water changes with slightly cooler water.

Gerhard Ott "Male or female? Sex differences from fishes – part 3" (“Männlein oder Weiblein? Geschlechtsunterschied bei Fischen – Teil 3”)

Gerhard determine that the males of the most fish species have the most striking sexual characteristics. For example, with respect to the catfishes: Ancistrus have antennas; Sturisomatichthys have whiskers.

On the other hand he writes about functional differences. For example, the males of Corydoras sterbai have pointed ventral fins why they hold tight the females with these. The females of Corydoras sterbai have rounded ventral fins because the build a fins bag with these.

Ingo Seidel "Curuá-Una-Leporacanthicus (Leporacanthicus sp. ‘L 314’)" (“Curuá-Una-Rüsselzahnwels (Leporacanthicus sp. ‘L 314’))”

Ingo informs that [according to a court decision] the export of Leporacanthicus joselimai (L 264) is possible from Brazil. After that the company aqua-global ordered Leporacanthicus joselimai (L 264). But the company get the rarer Leporacanthicus sp. “L 314”.
Remark: In this time the export of Leporacanthicus joselimai is again prohibited.

Redaktion aquaristik "Pointed head – Corydoras" (“Spitzkopf-Smaragdpanzerwelse”)

This is a presentation of Corydoras multiradiatus. Corydoras multiradiatus has a total length of 15 cm. It is one of the greatest Corydoras.
