Nauta

The next stop was probably in the interests of the ship owner. We made an unexpected stop at Nauta. There, the third part of our temporary travel group time should go on board.

During this time we visited the town. First we went for a walk around the market. The wide variety of fruits and fish was very interesting. Then we took a walk to the Plaza de Armas and continue to the lagoon Sapi Sapi. In the lagoon we observed Paiche (Arapaima sp.). These are the largest freshwater fishes in South American. They can be up to 3 m long and up to 250 kg. (The largest freshwater fishes are probably the Beluga sturgeon from the Black Sea and from the Caspian Sea and their tributaries, up to 5 m long and up to 600 kg.)

At the lagoon began a 30-minute tour through the city with tuk-tuks. In some ways we are glad that there was no traffic from the opposite direction.

Later, back on our ship Amatista, we were able to watch river dolphins (Inia geoffrensis).
