Chan-Chan

After the city tour we drove by car to Chan-Chan. Chan-Chan is located about 10 kilometers west from Trujillo (turquoise marker).

Chan-Chan was around the year 1300 the capital of the former Chimú Empire. The city at that time had about 60,000 inhabitants and an area of 28 square kilometers. The buildings were made of mud.

The Incas were not so easily subdue the town. Therefore, they redirected the river. The oasis on the river dried up. This led to the decline of the city.
