DATZ 06/2016 – “Catfish Press Review”

Hello catfish freaks,

today I want to introduce you in one article from the current issue of DATZ:

Frank Schäfer “Long-known rubber pleco finallay has a name”

(“Altbekannter Gebirgsharnischwels hat endlich einen Namen”)

This article is about the scientific description of Chaetostoma joropo from Gustavo A. Ballen, Alexander Urbano-Bonilla, Javier A. Maldonado-Ocampo “Description of a new species of the genus Chaetostoma from the Orinoco River drainage with comments on Chaetostoma milesi Fowler, 1941 (Siluriformes: Loricariidae)”.
Frank Schäfer confirms that this pleco is Chaetostoma sp. “L 445”, alias Chaetostoma sp. “Villaviciencio I”. This is similar to Chaetostoma milesi

Frank quotes the information over the habitat of Chaetostoma joropo, like these called in the work:
“sandy soil, shallow water 0.2 – 0.55m, oxygen-rich 6.1 – 9.5 ml/l, slightly alkaline pH 7.1 – 8.6, conductivity 10.4 – 259 µS/cm, water temperature 21 – 30 °C.
