DATZ May 2017 – “Catfish Press Review”

Hello catfish freaks,

I would like to draw your attention to an article in the DATZ 4/2017:

Frank Schäfer “Revision of the dolphin catfishes completed” (“Revision der Delfinwelse abgeschlossen”)

Frank reports the history of the description from the Delfin catfishes. This starts with the first two accepted genera Ageneiosus and Tetranematichthys. Later, and in 1912 Eigenmann initiated the third genera Tympanopleura.

Walsh et. al. created the first part of the revision from the Delfin catfishes with Walsh et. al. “Revision of Tympanopleura Eigenmann (Siluriformes: Auchenipteridae) with description of two new species”. Some weeks ago Ribeiro et. al. finished the revision with  Ribeiro et. al.  “Taxonomic revision of the South American catfish genus Ageneiosus (Siluriformes: Auchenipteridae) with the description of four new species”.

Frank wrote that we know the species Ageneiosus inermis (this haves also the synonyms Ageneiosus marmoratus and Ageneiosus brevifilis), and Ageneiosus vittatus, which is now a synonym of Ageneiosus lineatus in aquaristics.

Enjoy reading of DATZ.
